The size of the belly increases considerably in the 32nd week of pregnancy. If the baby comes out at this time, it would be considered a preterm birth. If it occurs earlier, it is considered severe or extreme preterm labour.
However, the baby's brain is already almost fully formed and it is thought that it may even be able to store memory. Its lungs begin to secrete pulmonary surfactant to help with gas exchange and breathing.
