Definition of antisperm antibodies

Antisperm antibodies (ASA) are a type of immunoglobulins of the immune system that are capable of adhering to antigens IgA and IgG, which can be found on the surface of sperm cells.

To prevent this, sperm are protected against ASA by a barrier system called blood-testis barrier. However, when the barrier breaks down, it causes a type of immune infertility in males.
