The bicornuate or heart-shaped uterus does not cause discomfort in women, although some women with this uterine malformation describe having more painful sexual intercourse and periods.
However, depending on the size of the uterine cleft, women with bicornuate uteri may experience some of the following complications:
- Spontaneous abortion.
- Premature delivery.
- Intrauterine growth retardation.
- Breech fetal presentation.
