Depending on how the breastfeeding process is carried out, there are several modalities. Some of the most commonly used terms are described below:
- Exclusive breastfeeding if the baby feeds only on breast milk.
- Predominant breastfeeding when the baby drinks mainly breast milk, but also receives breast milk. mainly breast milk, but also receives water, juices, etc.
- Complementary feeding is when the baby takes breast milk, but also other foods, both solids and liquids.
- Direct breastfeeding is when the baby sucks on the mother's breast to express milk.
- Delayed breastfeeding is when it is the mother who extracts the milk from her breast with the help of a breast pump.
