Every IVF cycle involves a stage called ovarian stimulation, which is done in order to get a larger number of viable embryos. However, in Spain a maximum number of 3 viable embryos per transfer can be used, which gives rise to unused or leftover embryos. In these cases, the biological parents are the ones who decide what the fate of these unwanted embryos will be.
