What space does an epidural go into?

Epidural anesthesia, discovered by Fidel Pagés, is commonly used in childbirth and other infra-umbilical interventions, except in appendicitis.

Although there are different types of epidurals, the most common is the one injected in the lumbar area, between the L3 and L4 vertebrae, which allows blocking the nerves of the spinal cord.
