Does at home artificial insemination work?

To achieve success, it is crucial that you perform it gently and quickly at the same time. Thus, you prevent seminal characteristics from being altered. Sudden changes of temperature, pH, or humidity can alter the characteristics of the semen or affect sperm motility.

Even though you are inserting the sperm into the vagina manually, once they are inside the female reproductive tract, it is on their hands that they are able to swim and reach the Fallopian tubes. There, the egg will be waiting for the best sperm cell to fertilize it. With artificial insemination, what we do is to help sperm in the first step of their challenging race.

To increase the chances of success with this technique, you should perform it on your fertile days, that is, in the days prior to ovulation. You should keep in mind that an egg is able to survive up to 24 hours after being ovulated, and sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for 2-5 days.

Moreover, one should not forget that the effectiveness of at-home artificial insemination can be compared to that of having sexual intercourse. In other words, there is almost no difference between the success rates of at-home IUI or sexual relations.
