Does intense exercise also affect female fertility?

By Silvia Azaña Gutiérrez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).

Yes. Very intense exercise can even cause women to stop having menstrual cycles, leading to amenorrhea. In this case, if ovulation does not occur, the woman will not be able to get pregnant.

In addition, there are other factors associated with intense exercise that can also affect a woman's fertility, such as being underweight and the stress of competition.
