What is biometric facial matching with an egg donor?

By Michelle Lorraine Embleton B.Sc. Ph.D. (biochemist).
Last Update: 12/15/2022

Michelle Emblenton, biochemist at inviTRA, tells us about the biometric similarity with the egg donor:

Through this technology the aim is to find the donor with the closest facial resemblance to the recipient. These biometric based systems use measurements between different points of the face, so to study the resemblance between the donor and the recipient woman (for example: distances between the corners of the eyes and the ears, the nose and the ears, the mouth to the ears, etc). This can really give peace of mind to the recipient woman that their donor does resemble her physically and so that baby's born from the egg donation will resemble the recipient woman. However, this technology is not available in all clinics at this moment in time.
