What is phenotypic and inmunological matching with an egg donor?

By Michelle Lorraine Embleton B.Sc. Ph.D. (biochemist).
Last Update: 12/15/2022

Michelle Emblenton, biochemist at inviTRA, talks about what is phenotypic and immunological matching with an egg donor:

The medical team when they are choosing the donor will look at phenotypic and immunological factors. Immunological factors are things such as blood group and the RH groups. Phenotypic refers to physical characteristics, so factors such as your skin tone, your hair color, your eye color, perhaps your height... this is done so that the children will resemble physically the recipient woman. The recipient won't be able to request certain characteristics, it is the clinic who are in charge of deciding who the donor is.
