Invasive tests that can determine the baby’s sex

Some invasive tests, such as chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis, are able to reveal the sex of the baby during pregnancy. Both tests are usually performed before the 20-week ultrasound, which is the usual method of determining whether the baby on the way is a boy or a girl.

However, given the invasive nature of these tests and the risk of gestational loss, they are only used to diagnose the presence of a genetic abnormality in the baby and not solely to satisfy the curiosity of knowing the baby's sex.
