Some invasive tests, such as chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis, are able to reveal the sex of the baby during pregnancy. Both tests are usually performed before the 20-week ultrasound, which is the usual method of determining whether the baby on the way is a boy or a girl.
However, given the invasive nature of these tests and the risk of gestational loss, they are only used to diagnose the presence of a genetic abnormality in the baby and not solely to satisfy the curiosity of knowing the baby's sex.
