Hi, I am 37 years old, I stopped taking AO in December after 12 years and I have not had a period since December 12th. I have a family history of early menopause and these are my test results: Oestradiol: < 20pg/ml; FSH: 18.61 IU/l; LH: 10.64 IU/l; Prolactin: 75.33 microgram/l; AMH: 0.55 ng/ml. While waiting to rule out a pituitary adenoma, the only solution I have been offered is egg donation. Should I ask for a second opinion? Thank you very much.

  2. Hi Melissa

First of all, your prolactin hormone level is very high and indicates that you have hyperprolactinemia. On the other hand, the FSH hormone is also very high and this is indicative of low ovarian reserve.

Finally, the anti-mullerian hormone confirms that your ovarian reserve is affected and this makes pregnancy difficult. However, your ovaries may still respond to ovarian stimulation and get their own eggs for in vitro fertilization (IVF). Obviously, the success rates are lower than for egg donation, but this is something you should consider.

If you need a second opinion from a medical professional, remember that the Fertility Report can help you select the fertility clinics that work best for you.

To learn more about egg donation, I recommend the following post: Donor-Egg IVF Procedure for Recipients – Protocol & Cost.

    Hope this helps,

    Best regards

    • Thank you very much for your answer. Indeed, an MRI has detected an 8mm microadenoma. I have had a new analysis to assess more pituitary hormones before putting a treatment, and these are the values: FSH: 30.64 mIU/ml; LH: 15.35 mIU/ml; Oestradiol: 16pg/ml; TSH: 2.75 microIU/ml; Prolactin: 141. 60 ng/ml; Prolactin at 20 min: 145.70 ng/ml and waiting for ACTH, Cortisol and IGP-I. Could the FSH value have varied so much in such a short time? Is it possible that when I regulate my prolactin with medication I will have my period again? Greetings. Thank you

  3. Good evening everybody, I hope you can help me. I’m a little desperate, 10 years or so ago I had surgery on an ovarian cyst that was very advanced and they removed my right ovary. Two months ago I had another operation and unfortunately, the other ovary was removed, as a result of which I will no longer be able to ovulate and I am told that I will go through early menopause. I have started to feel the symptoms, they are very horrible, I am afraid of what is coming, I am 31 years old and I have no children. Please help me, I’d like to know what’s coming and how I can face it. They also told me about egg donation something like that in order to be able to gestate through IVF but I don’t know if that procedure is good for my health, please help me.

    • Hi Charlotte

First of all, I’m very sorry about everything that happened, but the most important thing is that you’re better now.

Early menopause is the blocking of reproductive activity at an age below 40. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet and practicing sport are essential aspects to better cope with this fact.

On the other hand, if you want to achieve pregnancy you will have to resort to assisted reproduction techniques. Specifically, egg donation will be necessary to fertilize the donor eggs with your partner’s sperm in the laboratory and then transfer the embryos generated to the uterus. Therefore, it would not pose any danger to your health. I invite you to read more on this subject in the following article: What is egg donation IVF and how much does it cost?

Finally, if you finally decide to have a baby, I recommend that you visit the Fertility Report. This is a free tool with which you will obtain personalized advice from the clinics in your area of interest that meet our quality criteria. You will also receive information on prices, services included, some advice for your first visit, etc.

I hope I have helped you.
