    Hello,

Just wanted to know if there is any risk involved in egg freezing in case one has the HPV. I’m about to freeze my eggs but after a recent gynecological consultations I’ve been detected this sexually transmitted infection.

    Thanks!

  2. Dear adele,

if you have been diagnosed with HPV, you should inform your fertility clinic, so that your gynecologist allows you to continue with the egg freezing process without problems.

The most likely is that you can continue with the process as usually, but there are different types of HPV that range from minor (low-grade) or serious (high-grade). In cases of high-grade HPV, follicular puncture —a necessary surgical intervention for ovum pick-up— couldn’t be performed, and therefore your eggs couldn’t be retrieved to be frozen.

In conclusion, your GYN/OB is the indicated person to give you instructions on how to proceed now.

    Best wishes
