Before you start trying to get your baby out of diapers, he or she needs to be ready for it. Therefore, once parents have observed certain signs that their baby is probably ready, they can begin the process:
- Remove their diaper only during the day, keeping it on even during the night.
- Do not force them to sit on the potty, but try to get them to sit for a few minutes every 2-3 hours.
- Detect when they may have the urge to pee or poop and encourage and accompany them to go to the potty.
- Congratulate them when they succeed.
- Do not scold them when they escape, as this is part of the learning process.
If after several days no progress is observed, it would be advisable to go back to the diaper and wait a little while until the child is more prepared.
