Hashimoto’s tiroiditis

Last Update: 03/11/2022

Hashimoto's thyroiditis, also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is a pathology that affects the thyroid gland after being attacked by the immune system. Generally, this disease causes a decrease in the activity of the gland and generates hypothyroidism.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis usually appears in middle-aged women, although men can also suffer. The most prominent symptoms associated with this disease are:

  • Increased sensitivity to cold.
  • Constipation.
  • Dry skin.
  • Weight gain.
  • Muscle weakness.

However, these clinical manifestations are not the only ones. In addition, factors such as age, gender, or a family history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis or other autoimmune conditions can increase a person's risk of developing Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
