The probability of having a multiple pregnancy is different depending on whether we are talking about identical or non-identical twins.
The rate of monozygotic twins is the same, regardless of the geographical location: between 3-4 out of every 1000 births.
However, the rate of dizygotic twins (non-identical) varies according to where we are: 6 out of every 1000 births in Asia and 40 out of every 1000 births in Africa.
