Vaginal birth can be performed naturally or assisted by epidural anaesthesia. This second option reduces the pain caused by uterine contractions and vaginal dilation, making the birth more bearable.
The first stage of vaginal delivery consists of dilating the vagina to make it easier for the baby to pass through. Next, pushing or labour begins. The woman will have to push hard for the baby to come out.
