When speaking about egg donation, we mean in vitro fertilization, excluding therefore artificial insemination. The two main in vitro techniques are conventional IVF and ICSI. In the former, the spermatozoon itself has to pass through the egg coat to penetrate the egg, whereas in the latter, the lab staff are the ones who choose a single sperm and inserts it into the egg by means of microinjection.
