Systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE is an autoimmune disease that is not contagious and there is no cure. However, there are certain treatments that help slow the progression of lupus.
For example, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs reduce joint pain, a symptom associated with the disease. Antimalarials protect against skin rashes, while immunosuppressants are especially useful when there are kidney complications.
However, the drug of choice to stop an active focus of the disease is corticosteroids.
