Risk factors for dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is the medical term for menstrual pain. In principle, a woman is more likely to suffer from menstrual pain if she has any of these risk factors:

  • Early menarche.
  • Abundant menstruation.
  • Prolonged menstruation.
  • Irregular cycles.

In addition, having a family history of dysmenorrhea, as well as smoking, would also increase the risk of suffering pain with menstruation.
