Polyzoospermia is a sperm disorder that is characterized by the production of more than 200 million sperm per mL of ejaculate. This high amount of spermatozoa in the semen can be the cause of male sterility since it makes it difficult for the spermatozoa to move progressively to reach the egg.
When a man is diagnosed with polyzoospermia, artificial insemination (AI) is usually recommended to achieve a pregnancy. In this case, the sperm is prepared in the laboratory by washing and sperm capacitation. In this way, the concentration and motility of the sperm are adjusted to favor the union between the egg and the spermatozoon.
