Pronucleus

66

A pronucleus is the nucleus of the ovum and the sperm, that is, of the gametes. These nuclei have half the chromosomes that the nucleus of any other type of cell would have. This is because after fertilization occurs, the pronucleus of the egg and sperm fuse to give rise to the zygote. In this way, the zygote will present the correct genetic load.
