Couple’s feelings and emotions after a diagnosis of fertility problems

When a couple goes to an assisted reproduction centre and is diagnosed with fertility problems, it is common for feelings and emotions such as the following to arise, which can lead to an affectation of the couple's relationship:

  • Frustration.
  • Anger.
  • Guilt.
  • Irritability.
  • Uncertainty.
  • Stress and anxiety.
  • Discouragement and listlessness.
  • Feeling of emptiness.

However, the stress of having spent a period of time searching for pregnancy without success, together with the anguish of undergoing the fertility test and waiting for the results, may have destabilised the couple a little, even prior to the diagnosis.
