Chancroid, also called soft chancre, is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) produced by the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi.
It is characterized by the appearance of ulcers on the skin of the external genitalia of cancerous appearance. These ulcers are painful to the touch, can secrete a foul-smelling exudate and are contagious.
The treatment of soft chancre consists of taking antibiotics.
