When sperm morphology is evaluated at high magnification, vacuoles can be detected in the sperm head. These vacuoles are physiological structures formed during spermatogenesis that are seen as concavities in the sperm head.
The causes that produce the presence of vacuoles in the spermatozoon are not clear, but they have been related to failures in chromatin condensation.
