When the menstrual period does not arrive on the expected date, a menstrual delay occurs. Although the causes may be varied, the most well-known cause is undoubtedly pregnancy. However, a late menstrual period does not necessarily mean that a woman is pregnant or that there is a problem.
In general, it is advisable to wait about 10 days to check if the menstrual period has decreased before seeing a specialist, especially if the pregnancy test has been negative, since it will be necessary to look for causes other than pregnancy that have produced the delay in menstruation
