During the fifth week of gestation, the embryo continues its development and measures approximately 1 mm. At this point, the notochord is formed, which will support the formation of the spine, and the neural tube, from which the brain and spinal cord of the fetus will develop.
The upper protuberance becomes the head of the future baby. Lateral protuberances corresponding to the upper and lower extremities also begin to appear.
Finally, facial features begin to appear with the retinas of the eyes and the nostrils.
