Gestational diabetes is a mild diabetes that usually occurs at the end of pregnancy. This type of diabetes is due to a malfunction of insulin, which causes a buildup of glucose in the blood.
The exact cause of gestational diabetes is not known, although it is possible that it is a result of pregnancy hormones.
