There are several possible causes of oligohydramnios. However, it is possible that in certain cases the cause of this decreased amniotic fluid may be unknown.
Among the different causes are:
- Fetal abnormalities.
- Intrauterine growth restriction.
- Fetal infection.
- Post-term pregnancy.
- Premature rupture of membranes.
- Placental problems and dysfunction.
In addition, certain medications such as ibuprofen may also cause oligohydramnios.
