It is very important to protect babies from sun exposure, as their melanin production is slower and, therefore, solar radiation can damage their skin more easily.
However, if the baby is less than 6 months old, sunscreen should not be used. The ideal is to avoid exposing them to the sun, keeping them in the shade and covering them with clothing, hats, umbrellas, etc.
When the baby is between 6 months and 3 years of age, pediatric photoprotectors can be used, preferably with physical filters, although the recommendation is to avoid direct sun exposure until 3 years of age.
If the baby is older than 3 years, a pediatric sunscreen with chemical filters and high sun protection factor can be applied half an hour before sun exposure.
