Breastfeeding is the process by which a baby is fed in the first months of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that a mother breastfeed her baby up to 6 months of age.
However, there are several types of breastfeeding:
- On demand when time is not taken into account.
- Multiple if the mother feeds both children of the same age.
- Tandem, i.e., it is the same as multiple breastfeeding but with children of different ages.
- Artificial if formula milk is chosen.
- Mixed or complementary when the baby is fed with breast milk and formula.
