Cesarean section is a surgical procedure that must be performed under general or epidural anesthesia in an operating room. The operation usually lasts about 15-20 minutes if everything goes well, plus the time it takes the doctor to close the wound. If the mother is conscious, she will be able to see the baby after it is removed, since during the process she has a sheet that prevents her from seeing.
Nowadays, many babies are born with this technique, although it should only be performed when strictly necessary because of the associated risks.
