If a woman has diabetes and wants to become pregnant, it is important to monitor her blood glucose levels. A situation of hyperglycaemia, i.e. high levels of glucose in the bloodstream, can lead to a deficit in hormone production. For example, if there is too much sugar in the blood, the production of cortisol, progesterone, etc. may be reduced.
The main consequence of this effect of hyperglycaemia is difficulties in achieving pregnancy, among other health problems.
