Can I trust my negative pregnancy test result or am I still hopeful?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).

The answer to this question will depend on each situation. If the pregnancy test has been performed on the correct date and, if it is a home pregnancy test, following all the instructions, then the result obtained is quite reliable.

However, if the pregnancy test has been performed prematurely or the manufacturer's instructions have not been followed, then the result could be wrong. In these cases, the most prudent and advisable thing to do is to repeat the pregnancy test after the appropriate time has elapsed.
