Could the low ejaculation be due to previous ejaculation?

Last Update: 03/20/2026

Silvia Azaña, an embryologist at inviTRA, explains in this video whether low ejaculate volume may be due to a previous ejaculation:

Yes. When a small amount or low volume of semen is ejaculated (hypospermia), it may be because the man has ejaculated previously, without allowing sufficient time for the semen volume to recover.

Therefore, when a semen analysis is to be performed, it is recommended to abstain from ejaculation for 2-3 days in order to correctly assess semen quality.

Similarly, when trying to conceive, it is recommended to have sexual intercourse every other day around the time of ovulation, to allow time for semen quality to recover.
