Is it normal not to get my period or to have irregular bleeding while using the contraceptive injection?

Yes, it is completely normal and very common to experience changes in your menstrual cycle after starting the contraceptive injection.

The absence of menstruation, or amenorrhea, is a fairly common side effect associated with the contraceptive injection. About 50% of women stop menstruating after one year of use. This happens because the endometrium becomes very thin and does not shed.

Intermenstrual spotting (light and brown or red in color) may also occur during the first 3 to 6 months of use, while the body adjusts to the hormonal changes.
