Is it possible to conceive naturally during perimenopause?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).
Last Update: 07/02/2026

It is possible to become pregnant during the premenopausal stage, that is, during perimenopause.

Throughout perimenopause, sporadic and unpredictable ovulation occurs, making it extremely difficult to predict. Therefore, a natural pregnancy cannot be completely ruled out if a couple has unprotected sex, although the statistical likelihood is very low due to poor egg quality and a low ovarian reserve.
