The main alternative to the use of PGD is prenatal diagnosis, which, in order to have a truly preventive effect, is necessarily linked to the decision to abort affected fetuses.
Another option involves changing the gametes (egg or sperm) of one or both members of the couple at genetic risk.
Finally, and although today it is no longer necessary in the vast majority of cases, avoiding having children would be a third alternative.
