By Michelle Lorraine Embleton B.Sc. Ph.D. (biochemist).
Last Update: 10/10/2022

Michelle Lorraine Embleton, biochemist at inviTRA, tells us in this video about what happens to unused embryos after an IVF treatment. As Michelle explains:

Most countries have similar laws about what can happen with the leftover embryos. There are four main options. The first is to preserve the cryogenically for own use in future embryos transfers, whether to try again after a failed treatment or to try for siblings after a successful treatment. Secondly, you can choose to donate your embryos to another couple who are trying for pregnancy. Another option is to donate the embryos to resrach to help advance the field of assisted reproduction. The final option is cessation of storage and destruction of the embryos.
