Silvia Azaña, embryologist at inviTRA, explains in this video the importance of knowing when ovulation occurs:
Ovulation typically occurs near the midpoint of the menstrual cycle if the woman has regular 28-day cycles. In an approximate 28-day menstrual cycle, ovulation occurs around day 14.
The menstrual cycle is regulated by sex hormones. Among the most important are the FSH and LH hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. These hormones reach their peak during the ovulatory phase of the cycle. Therefore, they are a good indicator of fertile days, especially LH.
And it is important to keep in mind that any alteration in the hormonal levels of FSH and LH could cause anovulation or other irregularities.
Women who are actively trying to conceive, as well as those who wish to prevent pregnancy, share an interest in identifying their fertile days. The goal is to determine the optimal timing for engaging in sexual intercourse, either without contraceptive protection or for the purpose of avoidance.
