Folliculogenesis is the name given to the process of development and maturation of follicles in the ovary. As follicular development progresses, the different follicles with different degrees of maturation acquire a name, which also denominates the stages of folliculogenesis.
Thus, the different stages of folliculogenesis are: primordial follicle, primary follicle, secondary follicle, antral follicle and Graafian or preovulatory follicle.
