Do uterine polyps need to be removed?

Hi,
I went to my gyn 2 days ago and I found out that I have one uterine polyps… I’ve an appointment for a hysteroscopic d&c next ween and I’m really worried. I’m a 42 year old premenopausal woman… Is it a worrying factor?

Dear Susan,

Some polyps do not require any treatment if they are small and don’t cause any symptoms. Some medications can lessen the symptoms without needing surgery. However, if they are large and cause symptoms such as heavy bleeding during menstruation or if you suspect that they may be cancerous, they should be removed.
