My partner had a vasectomy 9 yrs ago after having a child with someone else. I was thinking we could have a family through ai. I am 43, been tested and was told my eggs are the age of a 37yr old. Is ai still the way to go?

I’m afraid that Artificial Insemination (AI) is only possible if your husband banked (froze) sperm before his vasectomy. In case he didn’t, this fertility treatment won’t be possible for you. Moreover, AI is recommended for women aged 36 or less. In your case, even if you’ve been told that your eggs are the age of a 37-year-old woman, my advice is that you do some testing in order to evaluate your egg count.
In your case, the most appropriate treatment is IVF with ICSI. With this technique, the man’s sperm are extracted directly from the man’s testicle or epididymis through a process known as “sperm aspiration”. With the help of a microscope, a single sperm is injected into the woman’s egg, making sure that fertilization occurs.
