What is genetic grief?

Genetic duel is the term used to refer to the emotional reaction that occurs when recourse to donated gametes (eggs and/or sperm) is necessary. In addition, patients who resort to embryo adoption may also develop what is known as genetic grief.

The idea that the baby will not have the genetic material of both the mother and the father can cause sadness, fear, pain, etc. For this reason, many people reject fertility treatments with donated gametes altogether.

In addition, many doubts arise as to whether the parents will regret their decision in the future. However, it is important to remember that being a mother and a father is created little by little over time and is totally independent of genetics.
