Genital herpes outbreaks

After infection with the herpes simplex virus, the virus remains dormant (inactive) in the person's body. However, the virus can reactivate from time to time and cause symptoms again.

This happens most often in the first year after infection and when genital herpes is caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

On the other hand, the occurrence of outbreaks has been linked to factors such as menstruation, fatigue and stress.

Finally, outbreaks can occur infrequently or very frequently (several per year), but tend to become less frequent over time.
