Genital herpes causes blisters in the genital or anal area that can rupture, resulting in painful sores or ulcers. Tips on how to try to relieve the pain and get these sores to heal as soon as possible include the following:
- Wash sores thoroughly with soap and water and pat dry.
- Wear loose-fitting, cotton underwear.
- Apply cold to the sores.
- Take antiviral treatment and ask your specialist if you can take painkillers.
In addition, it is important to wash hands carefully after touching the sores to avoid spreading the virus to other areas of the body or to other people.
