What is gestational age?

Gestational age refers to the age of the embryo or fetus, i.e. the period of time from fertilization to birth. It is a fairly common term used throughout pregnancy to track the progress of the pregnancy.

Once fertilization has taken place, the gestational age is calculated by adding 14 days to the time of conception. In the case of assisted reproduction techniques and, specifically, when they are cryopreserved embryos, the date of fertilization is obtained by subtracting the days of embryo development at the time of vitrification from the date of embryo transfer.
