The name Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) was confusing, since it implied that it was solely an ovarian problem and due to the existence of pathological cysts. Therefore, this syndrome is now called Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), which better reflects its multisystemic nature.
PMOS has implications in different systems: reproductive, metabolic, dermatological, and even psychological impact.
