What is hydrometra?

Hydrometra is a pathology characterized by the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the uterine cavity. This condition has different names depending on the type of fluid accumulated in the uterus:

  • Hematometra when blood accumulates abnormally in the uterine cavity.
  • Pyometra when the fluid accumulated in the uterus is pus.

Possible causes of hydrometra include coagulation problems, genital malformations, cervical stenosis or hydrosalpinx. In any case, it is best to consult a specialist if the woman has any discomfort.
