To do a hysterosalpingography, the woman must be placed in the same position as when a gynecological study is done. After washing the area of the vagina well, the specialist places a speculum and introduces a catheter up to the cervix, through which the radio-opaque contrast medium used for the test, is introduced.
The x-ray machine is then placed on the woman's abdomen and all the necessary images are taken as the contrast dye flows through the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes.
